Netplay Guide
Setting up
- Get the game ISO.
- If one of you isn’t using a 1:1 perfect rip of the ISO, there may be desync issues.
- You may want to ask around the GNT Discord server as to where you can find it.
- Download Dolphin version 5.0-321.
- Other versions of Dolphin will work, but both you and your opponent must use the same version.
- Alternatively, you could use the Kuroha Saenoki Translation Dolphin Build with Fixed AR Codes for Netplay, which should also work fine when playing other 5.0-321 Dolphin builds.
- Set up your game controller by selecting "Controllers."
- If you would like to use a GameCube controller, use this info from the official Dolphin Wiki.
- If you would like to use a fightstick, click "Controllers" in the Dolphin menu, select "Standard Controller" for Port 1, click "Configure," select your fightstick from the "Device" drop-down menu, and then bind your buttons to your preferred controls. To get a better idea of what each button does, you can look through the How to play page. When you are finished, type in a name in the "Profile" box and click save to make sure your settings are not deleted.
- Hit "Browse" and select the folder that GNT4 is in.
- GNT4 should now show up in your game list on the main Dolphin menu.
- Right click on the GNT4 banner in the games list, select "Properties">"AR codes," and make sure "Everything Unlocked" is checked.
- If you’re playing GNT4 Remastered, the rebalance mod, you don’t need to do this. The mod unlocks everything by default.
- Go to "Config."
- Under "General," make sure "Enable Cheats" is selected.
- Under "GameCube," make sure "Nothing" is selected for the memory cards.
- Give the game a test play to make sure the unlock code worked, your controller is working, and you hit a constant 60FPS.
Using Netplay
- To begin Netplay, go to "Tools">"Start Netplay..." and in the top-left, select "Traversal Server."
- If you are hosting, you will get a "Room ID" for your opponent to connect to.
- If not, politely wait for your opponent to send you their "Host Code."
- The pad buffer should be the ping divided by 8, rounded up.
- Every 4 pad buffer is 1 frame.
- For versions of Dolphin at base 5.0 and older, divide by 15.
- If the game is stuttering too much, increase the pad buffer.
- Remember that you’ll have to change the GNT4 settings from the in-game settings menu every time you boot the game, since memory cards are disabled.
- Recommended rounds is 3/5, recommended timer is 90 seconds.
- If the chat window says there was a possible desync, confirm with your opponent that you’re both seeing the same thing when there’s some downtime.
- If you are not both seeing the same thing, a desync happened, and you’ll have to restart the session.
- End all matches with a super.
- Rage quit if a match is ended with a super.
